💙💙Day 8: Diabetes & Work
•
I remember when I started applying to my current employer ten years ago. I was pretty unsure about whether I could say that I have diabetes. I was afraid that I would not be accepted because of that. I told it in the second interview. And then there was a very understanding response and I was asked whether I had it properly under control. I did, so that wasn't the problem. In the meantime I still work here, I work for a branch organization for butchers as a social affairs and education employee. I work here 4 days a week and this is a structured job where I can manage my diabetes very well. •
In addition, I have my own company Prikkedief. I started this because I got Diabetes. And Prikkedief gives me so much positive energy.
I make turn ugly diabetes items into trendy assecoires. I love to design beautiful products that are special made for your products to manage the diabetes. So I can make the life of people with diabetes a bit more colorful. I actually like all aspects of doing business and I also find it very inspiring to stay in contact with my customers. I also have a job namely Diabetes. That is of course a bit of a joke. But sometimes it feels that way. Making choices all day long, is my blood sugar good? When will I eat again? What am I going to eat? Am I going to move more? How many carbohydrates are there in this meal? Are these fast-acting or long-acting carbohydrates? Do I still have enough insulin at home? Do I have to replace my sensor or infusion set again? These are questions that are in my head all day long. And this of course feels the only heavier than the other day.
And this is not understandable for someone who does not have diabetes🙏💙💙

So tell me what is your job? And is it hard for you to combine it to your diabetes?
